Our Portfolio / Programme / Enterprise Management Office service helps clients in establishing the “Air Traffic Control” of changes in a portfolio and establishes the governance and controls that improve delivery certainty. At its core it is centred around creating a single view of the Portfolio on a Page, bringing the telemetry information that is most useful to Leadership teams, establishing the lifecycle and controls needed across the portfolio of changes, projects and programmes that improves delivery certainty.
A PMO will help when the organisation is having to grapple with a complex and busy change portfolio, establishing the Portfolio on a page, showing each change programme/project – with a proportionate amount of telemetry needed to have a pragmatic level of visibility of the portfolio. It will help to prioritise the Projects and Programmes, based on a set of criteria – developed with the leadership teams. Ideally this criteria is based on the strategic vision and objectives for the organisation. And the priorities make most sense, when mapped against known constraints.
The PMO will embed the change lifecycle(s), for both waterfall/PRINCE2 and Agile changes. And giving the opportunity for large and complex changes to have proportionately strong controls and pre-planning, and small changes, which will focus on less up management and PM overhead. This should also include the establishment and embedding of appropriate templates and establishing the checklists for stage gates in a portfolio – giving the PMs and sponsors risk-based approach to navigating the journey through a change.
The PMO will establish consistent method for capturing planned benefits from a project & programme, a way of establishing the mechanism for baselining and measuring the benefits, and a single source of benefits – which will be used for future forecasting and budgeting discussions.
